Anteversion Angle Measurement in Suspected Torsional Malalignment of the Femur in 3-Dimensional EOS vs Computed Tomography—A Validation Study

BackgroundComputed tomography (CT) scan is the standard for assessment of femoral torsion. This observational study was conducted to evaluate comparability EOS radiation dose scanning system (EOS imaging, Paris, France) and CT in patients with suspected torsional malalignment femur.MethodsPatients femur were included a surgical planning. The primary endpoint compare 3-dimensional radiological (EOS) imaging determine anteversion (AV) angle. Three independent raters performed measurements. Comparability values assessed by Pearson correlation, t test, interobserver reliability, intraobserver reliability (Cronbach alpha).ResultsAbout 34 femora examined. Interobserver reliability/intraobserver 0.911 0.955 0.934 scan. revealed an AV angle 12.2° ± 10.0° (?15.0° 32.0°). examinations showed 12.6° 9.2° (?3.2° 35.6°). About 11 hips featured physiological AV, 14 decreased (<10°) or retroversion (<0°), 9 increased (>20°). Overall, strong correlation ? = 0.855 highly significant test both methods seen. In retroversion, only resulted moderate/low 0.495 0.292. no at malrotation.ConclusionIn malalignment, does not have contrast scan, allows torsion measurement legs' positioning.
